The fiend who murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler and two women — fell seriously ill at the same time Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe died after catching the virus.

Bellfield, who now calls himself Yusuf Rahim, tested positive after his temperature soared and he lost his sense of taste and smell.

He was ordered to self-isolate at Frankland jail, Co Durham, where pal Sutcliffe — who died on November 13 — was held.

A source said: “No one would have shed a tear if he had died from it. But he has to be looked after and managed to fight off the virus himself.”

Concerns have previously been raised among health experts about the rapid spread of coronavirus in jails.

The hammer attacker — who runs and pumped iron when the jail gym was open — told one pal: “If I was not fit and watched my weight, I could have been a goner.”

He killed Milly Dowler, 13, in Surrey in 2002 and Marsha McDonnell, 19 and Amelie Delagrange, 22, in South West London in ’03 and ’04.
