The baby was being treated at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital after the horror, but police have now confirmed the tot tragically passed away yesterday.
A murder investigation has now been launched and a post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish a cause of death.
Lee appeared at Preston Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody to next appear at Preston Crown Court on January 6.
A decision will be made in due course in consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service regarding any further charges.
Detective Inspector Mark Dickinson, of the Force Major Investigation
Team, said: “My thoughts remain very much with this baby’s wider family and they are being supported by specialist officers.
"While a man has been charged, our investigation is very much on-going and I would appeal for anyone with information to contact us.”
Neighbours reported hearing "a lot of noise" before police swooped on the street last week.
One told The Sun Online: “I could hear a lot of noise but I thought it was my girlfriend upstairs.
“Then, a load of police arrived and I opened the gate to let them down the back alley.
“They’ve only lived here about six months.
“It’s shocking what has happened to the baby. I hope she pulls through.
“I’d not seen him there for a while."
Another neighbour said: “It’s terrible what has happened. I used to see the mum pushing the pram up and down the street.
“I only knew her to say hello to but she always seemed happy.
“I don’t want to imagine what she is going through right now."
