MATT HANCOCK addressed the nation on Monday, December 14 to reveal the latest changes to the Covid Tier restrictions throughout England.

London, most of Essex and parts of Hertfordshire will go into Tier 3 from 12.01am on Wednesday (December 16, 2020) - the toughest of the coronavirus lockdown measures.

What did Matt Hancock say in today's tier announcement?

told the public that London and parts of Essex and Hertfordshire will move into Tier 3 restrictions.

This will be installed from 00:01 on Wednesday.

Mr Hancock reminded the nation to stick to social distancing guidelines, while informing them that thousands of people in the UK have already received their first vaccine jab.

He was joined by Professor Chris Whitty and Professor Kevin Fenton to provide further information and data surrounding the latest cases and deaths.

The Health Secretary gave a speech to the House of Commons earlier on Monday (December 14, 2020) at 3.30pm.

He updated the house on local Tier announcements and the restrictions that people living in specific areas will be placed under.

The tier locations in England were unveiled by Mr Hancock on November 26, plunging 99 per cent of the country into Tier 2 and Tier 3 restrictions.

Shortly before his earlier Commons statement, Sky News reported that Mr Hancock informed MPs that London WOULD be moved into the highest tier "imminently".

City Hall bosses are drawing up plans which will see London ordered into the tougher lockdown at 12.01am on Wednesday.

The emergency plans mean pubs and restaurants will be forced to shut.

And it would mean there will be no final chance for Londoners to hit pubs and restaurants before they are forced to close their doors - which is thought to have contributed to spikes in the past.

It comes after led a "Covid O" Committee this morning to consider closing restaurants and pubs in the capital under the restrictions.
