The Chancellor is plotting a move to back Boris for PM to land top job in re-shuffle
GEORGE Osborne looks to be cosying up to Prime Minister-in-waiting BoJo in a desperate bid to save his political career.
The Chancellor is understood to be plotting whether to back Boris for PM in return for the top job of foreign secretary - despite being on the losing side of the referendum.
David Cameron's right hand man had made repeated threats about an emergency budget and the onset of a recession if Brits voted to leave the EU.
But in his first speech since Thursday’s shock result, the politician changed his tune, admitting: "The British economy is prepared for whatever happens."
Allies say Osborne is weighing up whether to follow in the footsteps of pal Miachel Gove who is being mooted as a deputy PM after backing Johnson, according to .
It's after Cameron stepped down in the wake of Brexit - admitting the country needed new leadership after 17,759,184 Brits vote to leave the EU.
It's believed Johnson and the home secretary Theresa May are expected to throw their hat in the ring in the battle for No 10.
It was always assumed Osborne would take over from Cameron after he announced he wouldn't run in another election.
But it's strongly assumed that the next Prime Minister of the UK will be someone from the Leave camp.
The Chancellor said he will address his position in the Conservative party in the coming days as he scrambles to keep his place at the top table.
The pound plunged after Britain voted to leave the EU on Thursday - but Osborne says a plan is in place
In his speech this morning, he said: "Leaving the EU was not the outcome I wanted or campaigned for, but now democracy has spoken we must act on that result.
"I fully respect that result. The economy will have to adjust."
Osborne was believed to have gone into hiding over the weekend after he was defeated in Thursday's referendum.
But today the man holding Britain's purse strings announced he has been working closely with the Bank of England to ensure the economy can cope with the struggles ahead..
He said contingency plans have been put in place since Thursday's vote and the treasury is working to stabilise the banks and markets.
As well as juggling Britain's economy and a fight to keep a job in the cabinet, Osborne was yesterday hit with fresh misery after as Big Brother evictee Natalie Rowe threatened to dish more dirt on his youthful antics.
The Chancellor was famously pictured partying with Natalie when she worked as a madam named Miss Whiplash.
Although he has always denied her lurid allegations Natalie has revealed plans to reveal more secrets from their time together – including potentially embarrassing photos.
Osborne is thought to be focusing on the current crisis in the Tory Party as MPs look for a new leader and try to heal the rift caused by Brexit.
Labour on the other hand is in disarray as a total of 17 shadow ministers resign – continuing to pile pressure on Jeremy Corbyn to quit.
It follows Hilary Benn’s sacking in the early hours of Sunday morning which triggered a domino effect among cabinet members.
The hard-left Labour leader is expected to be hit by more frontbench resignations throughout the morning in a coordinated effort to try to oust Mr Corbyn.
