Stimulus payments of $600 to begin arriving as early as TONIGHT with paper checks being sent from tomorrow, Mnuchin says

TREASURY Secretary Steven Mnuchin promised the Treasury Department just cleared its checks - and promised some Americans could receive their $600 stimulus payments as early as tonight.

In a series of tweets Tuesday night, Mnuchin said some Americans with direct deposit could receive their checks as early as that night, and said paper checks will be sent out on Wednesday.

The Department of "Treasury has delivered a payment file to the Federal Reserve for Americans’ Economic Impact Payments," Mnuchin's tweet .

"These payments may begin to arrive in some accounts by direct deposit as early as tonight and will continue into next week."

"Paper checks will begin to be mailed tomorrow," he continued in another . "Later this week, you can check the status of your payment at //IRS.gov/GetMyPayment."

Mnuchin's tweet came with a bout of confusion as the Senate continues to debate over passing $2,000 stimulus checks to Americans.

On Monday, the House passed a measure that would send $2,000 direct payments to Americans after the president called the original $600 payments - which have been approved and are the ones Mnuchin is referring to - a "disgrace."

After the Democratic-led House approved the $2,000 payments by a two-thirds super-tracked majority on Monday night, it was sent to the Senate on Tuesday, where Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked its passing twice.

, then called on Republicans to pass the $2,000 checks.

This then turned to McConnell reintroducing the $2,000 checks but with the stipulation of repealing Section 230, a clause allowing social media companies to be defined as platforms and not publishers of content posted by its users.

The bill is now reintroduced into the House, where Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer promised it would fail, and asked McConnell to pass the original $2,000 checks.

The confusion unfolded on Mnuchin's Twitter Tuesday night, with many asking how much they would be receiving.

"I'm confused the 600 or the 2000?" one.

This then prompted others to point out McConnell was the sole person standing in the way of millions of Americans from receiving the $2,000 stimulus checks.

"For those who don’t qualify for unemployment, like being furloughed or hours reduced, we are suffering now. No help! But Senate Majority Leader would approve Billions for pork, foreign aid, and lobbyists and special interests. It’s outrageous!!" another.

Someone thanked Mnuchin for the work, but urged him to move McConnell's mind on the issue.

"Thank you for your quick work. Could you please get mcconnell to allow the vote on the $2000 stimulus checks," they .
