All the best bits from David Cameron and Jeremy Corbyn’s face-off after the worst week of their careers

Prime Minister in first Commons session since EU summit whilst Labour leader clings on after no confidence vote

David Cameron

AFTER suffering the worst weeks of their political careers David Cameron and Jeremy Corbyn lined up for PMQs this lunchtime.

Scroll down for all the best bits from the first set-piece since the EU referendum:

12.40pm: Snap verdict - A 6-0 win for Cameron

Our Chief Political Correspondent, Craig Woodhouse, has delivered his verdict on today's session.

Here are the opening lines:

"Moments of genuine political drama are rare at Prime Minister’s Questions, which is generally more pantomime than Shakespeare.
"We got one today.
"David Cameron, his voice crackling with raw emotion, looked across at Jeremy Corbyn and delivered the most brutal closing line this grandest of stages has seen for many a year."

He also scored it 6-0 to the PM. Read the full story here

That's it for the blog, thanks for reading

12.35pm: Carswell jeered

Ukip's only MP Douglas Carswell is jeered as he tries to ask a question about the EU referendum.

Speaker John Bercow is forced to intervene before he can ask if the PM agrees both sides must now unite to achieve a new "post-EU national consensus", maintaining "close links" with European allies "while reclaiming our sovereignty", which broadly he does

12.32pm: Farage attacked

Bernard Jenkin pays tribute to the PM but asks him to condemn "the ridiculous and revolting behaviour of a certain MEP in the European Parliament".

He means Nigel Farage.

Mr Cameron delivers a withering reply: I've made clear what I thought of Nigel Farage and that appalling poster during the campaign.

"I think the motive was clear and everyone could see what he was trying to do."

12.28pm: 'Silvio Borisconi'

Another Tory, Sir Alan Duncan tries to lighten the mood by asking the PM to compare the "competence and dignity of Angela Merkel with the theatrical and comical antics of Silvio Borisconi".

Mr Cameron swerves that one by saying he plans to stay out of the upcoming Conservative leadership contest.

12.25pm: Tackling racism

Tory MP Michelle Donelan asks the PM about racism again, saying a former member of her staff was abused yesterday "for the colour of his skin".

Mr Cameron says the laws are in place to tackle and prosecute crimes of this kind, adding: "We have many imperfections, but we do have a claim to be one of the most successful multi-faith, multi-race democracies in the world."

12.21pm: What about Scotland?

The SNP's Angus Robertson uses his two questions to ask about Scotland in a post-Brexit world, with the PM saying he is focused on getting "the best possible deal for the UK which will also be the best possible deal for Scotland".

12.18pm: That's it, KO

Perhaps it was for the best that was the last of Corbyn's questions as there was not much he could have done to respond.

On to the other questions from MPs now.

12.17pm: 'For heaven's sake, go man!'

Cameron finishes with a stinging rebuke on the Labour leader, after getting riled on Corbyn's attempt to pin the blame for the EU referendum on the Tory government.

He tells the Labour chief he should look elsewhere for why they were both on the wrong side, before adding that although it might be in the Tories' interest for him to stay as Leader of the Opposition, it was "not in the national interest" and he should resign.

The PM adds: "For heavens sake man, go!"

12.15pm: Attack on Corbyn's effort

The PM goes on the attack, saying if Corbyn was trying his hardest to get the UK to vote Remain, then he would "hate to see him when he's not trying".

12.14pm: A One Nation leader?

Corbyn suggests the rise in the number of people living in poverty may have caused the reaction which led to Brexit - but the PM angrily dismisses this, and says the figures have gone down.

12.12pm: Post referendum racism

Corbyn says what steps are being taken to tackle the increased reports of increased racist crimes since the referendum result. PM says he condemns the attacks, and says we will do "whatever we can" to rid the country of them

12.10pm: Suspend fiscal rule?

Corbyn asks if the PM will get the Chancellor to suspend his fiscal rule to allow for more investment, but the PM says it would not be right to do so

12.08pm: PM says they are trying to keep stability

Mr Cameron says there are lots of meetings taking place, including ones held by the Business Secretary, but Corbyn responds by pointing to the drop in our credit rating from AAA.

12.07pm: Corbyn asks about business

After paying tribute to Patrick Mayhew following his death, he uses his first question to ask whether George Osborne has spoken to business leaders about the impact of Brexit.

12.05pm: Here's Corbyn

The Labour leader rises to no cheers from his benches, but jeers from Tory MPs. Looks very sombre behind Mr Corbyn

12.02pm: First question

The first question is from Lib Dem MP Alistair Carmichael, who pays tribute to the PM after he announced his resignation.

12.01pm: We're underway

The session kicks off with the PM paying tribute to the victims of the attacks at the Turkish airport - and a tribute on the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

12pm: Ready for the off

David Cameron is in the chamber as we get ready to get underway. So is Jeremy Corbyn.
