The image dissects the group's influence into three sections: areas of major control, areas of medium control and areas with a presence of covert units.

The areas of major control contain Syria and Iraq, where the group is fighting on several fronts in a desperate effort to maintain dominance in the Middle East.

It is calling on Muslims around the world to pledge their allegiance to the group.

According to ISIS, the group asserts medium control in ten countries including Afghanistan and Yemen in the Middle East, Somalia and Nigeria in Africa, Egypt and Libya in north Africa, Chechnya and Dagestan in Eastern Europe and the Philippines in the far east.

The terror group also claims to have a presence of "covert units" in seven countries, many of which have fallen victim to terrorist attacks in recent years. France, Tunisia and Turkey are on the list.

A senior intelligence source said: "This should not be dismissed as merely propaganda, ISIS has known cells across the globe and its influence stretches far beyond."
