"This is a horrible way to try to use to overshadow the horrific what happened today. Rioting is a bad way to protest. So is storming and breaking into government property. This is not ok Candace," another user wrote.

One user said: "Except one was protesting their right to live and not be killed due to the color of their skin and the others are mad simply cause the election didnt (sic) go their way. This is a very bad comparison, lol, do better."

"Here’s the difference, BLM protesting the killings of unarmed people that look like them. What happened at the Capitol Building is rioting and Looting because a person didn’t get his way and couldn’t overturn a loss. You are comparing apples to oranges," another user wrote.

Although some events escalated at Black Lives Matter protests, demonstrations were largely peaceful.

Owens' tweet with the pictures came hours after she first tweeted an unbacked "hunch" that Antifa were "in the mix."

"My hope is that all violent agitators are arrested and their names are revealed publicly," Owens wrote.

"Call it a hunch, but my guess is there are still ANTIFA thugs in the mix," she added.

Antifa, short for "anti-fascist," is a movement that opposes racism, white supremacy, and far-right movements, according to the

Owens is not the only one to push an unbacked conspiracy that Antifa were among those who sieged the Capitol.

Republican Congressman

"[There is] some pretty compelling evidence from a facial recognition company showing that some of the people who breached the Capitol today were not Trump supporters, but were masquerading as Trump supporters, and in fact were members of the violent terrorist group Antifa," he said.

XRVision, the facial recognition company that Gaetz cited, told the report – published by The Washington Times – is "outright false, misleading, and defamatory."
