Coroner rules death was accidental after tragic disappearance 16 months ago

A TRAGIC schoolboy who fell into a river while out playing has never been found, an inquest heard today.

Cameron Comey, 11, disappeared after falling into a river in Wales while playing with his brother during the half-term break 16 months ago.

A coroner today told his grieving parents that it was "truly awful" that Cameron had never been found.

Coroner Gareth Lewis told the inquest he had been authorised by the chief coroner to go ahead with Cameron's inquest despite the absence of his body.

Cameron had been playing with his brother next to the River Towy in Carmarthen known as "The 22" when he was swept away in February last year.

Younger brother Anthony, nine, ran to their home less than a mile away to horrified mum Amanda, 39.

The family called the police sparking a massive hunt with helicopters, RNLI search and rescue boats and the coastguard.

A full scale search was launched and continued for several months, but Cameron's body has never been found.

The coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death at the inquest in Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire.
