Whisky bottles to start displaying nutritional information within weeks
The first Scotch to carry the new label will be Johnnie Walker, which contains 67 calories per 30ml
WHISKY bottles are to display nutritional info.
Calories, fat, protein, carbs and salt content will appear on labels in weeks.
Johnnie Walker, at 67 calories per 30ml, will be the first Scotch to carry the details.
The move by owner Diageo, comes months after Scottish lager maker Tennents included similar info on beers.
Diageo, which also owns Smirnoff and Bailey’s, said it was logical to do the same for spirits.
Chief executive Ivan Menezes said: “These labels will arm millions of people around the world with clear information about what’s in their glass.
“We believe people should have the best possible information to make informed choices about what they drink.”
The new labels start abroad this autumn and in the UK later.
Guinness, also owned by the firm, will have the info next year.
