The snap-happy picture service collapsed in Europe, the US and Great Britain.

It appears to have broken at about 16.55 UK time, prompting people to flock to Twitter to vent their rage.

Snapchat moved quickly to fix the problem and the global flow of sexy self portraits has resumed once again.

Some users said they couldn't log into the app, whilst others claimed they were unable to send images.

Here's a tweet which shows the grim sight Snapchatters were faced with when their favourite picture sharing site app went down.

The world had to endure up to half an hour of a Snapchat-free existence until the firm's technical support confirmed there was an issue.

A Twitter account operated by its support team was bombarded with hundreds and possibly thousands of plaintive tweets.

"None of my snaps are loading or sending," one snapper raged.

"Y'all are heifers."

Another simply tweeted: "Please."

It's unclear what has caused the Snapchat outage.

Tech firms tend to be tightlipped about outages, which can be caused by mistakes, technical issues or even hacking.
