Wilko issues safety alert as it recalls Sparkle Girlz Winter Princess toy over ‘dangerous levels of chemicals’
Parents told to return toy to shop immediately after tests showed 'higher than expected levels of phthalates'

WILKO has issued an urgent warning about a kids’ doll after discovering it could be POISONOUS.
The budget chain issued a safety alert over its Sparkle Girlz Winter Princess Doll.
Tests found the popular toy contains dangerous chemicals that pose a risk to tots if they put it in their mouth.
The warning applies to all four variants of the doll, which comes with blue, orange, green or purple hair.
A Wilko statement reads: “We've recently become aware of a potential safety issue with our Sparkle Girlz Winter Princess Doll.
“We have identified that this product contains higher than expected levels of phthalates and consequently may present a risk to children if placed in the mouth, therefore it does not meet our strict safety requirements.
“Nothing matters more to us than our customers' safety.
“We wish to thank you for your cooperation and apologise for any inconvenience.”

The affected product has the item code 0417591.
Wilko issued the warning through Trading Standards.
It has vowed to give customers a full refund and urged customers to return the doll immediately to their nearest school.
The doll is describes as “Full of sparkle, fun and fashion, your little ones will love their Sparkle Girlz Winter Princess Doll.”
Phthalates are chemicals added to plastics to make them more pliable.
In the past phthalates have been linked to health issues including asthma, ADHD, fertility issues and cancer.
Sparkle Girlz Winter Princess Dolls are sold in other shops but no other brand has issued a safety warning.
