Moment cops break up 20-strong baby shower and Covidiots with £200 fines

THIS is the moment cops broke up an illegal baby shower of 20 Covidiots - slapping organisers with £200 fines.

Bodycam footage caught a "number of different households" breaching Covid rules at an east London home on Sunday, with balloons and a banquet to mark the occasion.

At the start of the clip, an officer can be heard entering the house to find several guests sat around a table full of party food.

A balloon arch can be seen in the background as an officer says: "Ok... a really big dinner party."

The cop later learns the get together is for a baby shower while another asks to speak with the hosts.

Two organisers, men aged 22 and 44, were both reported for breaking lockdown rules.

Chief Superintendent Stephen Clayman, from the Met's East Area Basic Command Unit, said: "This gathering had people of widely different ages and from different households present.

"Whilst I fully understand that people want to get together to celebrate events, this is definitely not the time to do it in person.

"A gathering like this can have tragic consequences for all those involved and risks spreading this terrible virus to our loved ones and the wider community."

He added: "Please have no doubt, we are determined to deal robustly with those who breach the Covid regulations in this way."

It comes after up to 20 railway workers reportedly held a lockdown baby shower at a closed Patisserie Valerie - sparking a coronavirus outbreak.

Chiltern Railways launched an internal investigation after staff allegedly held a surprise party in the bakery at London’s Marylebone station back in the November lockdown.

One worker said some guests then tested positive for Covid, resulting in most of the team being forced to self-isolate.

Meanwhile, brazen hosts held a hot tub party in Hampshire with one party goer telling cops they “didn’t know there was a pandemic”.

But Boris Johnson said he is "looking at the potential of relaxing some measures" ahead of a review of restrictions on February 15.

The PM said the Government is "looking at the data as it comes in, looking at the rates of infection" when asked about the easing of restrictions yesterday.
