Winter snowstorm: What cities and states have declared an emergency?

A major snow storm is expected to hit the Northeast during the weekend as many blizzard warnings have been sent out.

The storm is expected to create blizzard-like conditions and cause travel problems for several days.

What cities and states have declared a snow emergency?

Boston

A blizzard warning has been sent out to the residents of Boston, Massachusetts.

According to the blizzard warning Boston can expect around 18 to 24 inches of snow with winds up to 70 miles per hour.

has warned residents of travel as stating it to be 'difficult to impossible' while also warning of strong winds that cause trees to be damaged or fall.

A parking ban will be implemented in the city.

The snowstorm is expected from Friday, January 28, 2022 to Sunday morning January 30, 2022.

Connecticut

Governor Ned Lamont activated Connecticut's State Emergency Operations Center in wake of the storm.

The governor is urging people to avoid unnecessary travel.

On January 6, 2022, Governor Ned closed all state office buildings ahead of the storm and advised all nonessential workers to stay home.

Connecticut is expected to accumulate 15 to 19 inches of snow according to the National Weather Service.

New Jersey

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy held a press conference on January 28, 2022, to provide winter storm updates.

Murphy also closed all state government offices for nonessential personnel and the state’s six mega sites that distribute Covid-19 vaccines.

Gov Murphy declared a state of emergency restricting all travel within the state.

New Jersey is expected to see 18 inches of snow.

New York City

New York will see its first bomb cyclone in four years.

Governor Kathy Hochul urged New Yorkers to prepare for snow and high winds.

Gov. Hochul urged state agencies to prepare to arrange emergency response assets .

The Department of Sanitation issued a warning from Friday, January 28, 2022, to Sunday morning on January 30, 2021.

New York is expected to have 6 to 9 inches of snow with winds at 45 miles per hour.

Pennsylvania

Philadelphia and other parts of Pennsylvania have declared a snow emergency.

A Covid-19 vaccine clinic will stay open in Philly, but people will have the option of rescheduling their appointments.

Pennsylvania is expected to receive at least one foot of snow.

Snow emergencies have also been declared in Harris Township and College Township.

“As this winter storm continues, the best plan of action is to stay home,” Governor Tom Wolf said.

Travelling has been recommended to be restricted and reduced by the National Weather Service.
