He claimed the woman - who had converted to Islam - returned to an "un-Islamic lifestyle" following the couple's split.

The young girl has remained living with her mother since the separation.

Mr Justice Hayden was also told that the man did not approve of his ex-partner's new boyfriend - who is also Christian.

During the case at the High Court's Family Division it was heard that the man had taken his daughter to visit family in Algeria with her mum's permission.

But the girl was then left in the North African country with the relatives.

Mr Hayden ordered to man to return the girl to her mother as part of his ruling.

He said: "The father has been extremely critical of the mother and of what he now regards as her un-Islamic lifestyle, which he has described as 'debauched'."

"He has been dismissive of her care of their daughter and of her choice of partner."

Mr Hayden added: "He plainly does not consider it appropriate for (their daughter) to be brought up where her mother lives with a Christian man."
