Diego Maradona smoked ‘huge quantities of dope in the days before his death’
DIEGO Maradona smoked huge quantities of dope in the days before his death, it has emerged.
The Argentinian icon was using the drug after leaving hospital to recuperate from an operation on a brain blood clot.
The revelation was in leaked WhatsApp messages sent by his doctors.
One duty doctor wrote: “He’s got used to smoking pot every day — he asks his security people for it. The other day I told them, ‘Light a cigar for him next time he asks you for a joint’.”
The message was sent to the World Cup winner’s personal physician, Dr Leopoldo Luque, who is being investigated over the care he provided.
Dr Luque messaged back to warn that the drug could show up in a post mortem examination.
Maradona, who had also long battled cocaine addiction, died aged 60 days later.
Shocking new footage of sick soccer great released on Wednesday showed Maradona slurring his words in a greeting he sent Luque after his hospital op.
The Argentinian TV station which published the selfie video was forced to add subtitles so viewers could understand him.
In the clip, he said: “I’m bruised but okay.
“You know I don’t like intimacies but when I’m with good people I come out of my shell.”
