NASA shocked the internet last night after an image of a woman’s pert buttocks was posted to one of its most prominent Twitter feeds.
The gaffe happened after hackers managed to crack into an account used to share the discoveries of Kepler, a space probed dedicated to trying to find new planets outside the solar system.
They posted the words “waitin’ for ya” along with a link to a porn site called Local Sex.
The sexy image even made it onto the NASA homepage, which features a live feed taken from the Kepler Twitter account.
NASA quickly wrested control of the feed and tweeted: “Our account was temporarily compromised. We’re back in business, ready to tell you about new planet discoveries.”
The incident provoked hilarity across social media, prompting some hilarious – and appalling – jokes.
“Too bad, I thought we found a new heavenly body,” wrote Twitter user Chris Pope.
“Scientists are currently looking into it really hard, I guess,” another man wrote.
