Brown, now leading probe into Dallas killings, no stranger to perils of gun crime having experienced tragedy
DALLAS police chief David O’Neal Brown’s own son shot a policeman dead in 2010.
Just seven weeks after he was sworn in, his 27-year-old only son, also David, shot a civilian in a random attack.
Next he killed policeman Craig Shaw, 37, who had responded to a call.
Officers then shot Brown Jnr dead.

Now his father is the man leading the probe into the new killings.
Brown, on the force for 33 years, said at the time: “My family has not only lost a son, but a fellow police officer and a private citizen lost their lives at the hands of our son.
“That hurts so deeply I cannot adequately express the sadness I feel inside my heart.”
Wed to an ex-Dallas police sergeant, he said of the massacre yesterday: “We’re hurting.
“We are heartbroken.”
