BRITAIN faces a greater risk of terrorist attack because ministers have put trade before security, a report warns today.

It said the threat from home-grown jihadists fails to get the attention it deserves.

It blasts the Government for failing to draw up contingency plans to protect defence spending in the event of a Brexit.

Chancellor George Osborne has already warned of up to £1.5billion in defence savings to help plug holes in public finances.

The Armed Forces will face more cuts if the Brexit shockwaves rock UK finances, says the report by the joint committee on the National Security Strategy.

It accused ministers of dismissing the chance of a Leave vote for political convenience and instead chasing international trade deals.

The report called for a review into how Britain will cope with the “significant” security challenges facing the EU.

It said large-scale migration and an emerging domestic terrorist threat have implications for Britain whether or not it is a member of the union.

Labour MP Keith Vaz, a committee member, said: “There has clearly been no Plan B for our national security as far as Brexit is concerned.

“We’ve warned the Government over the last year that the migration crisis poses a real threat due to the inability to monitor extremists entering the country.”

He added: “This is where their focus should have been, not on issues of trade.”
