Boy, one, is run over by robot patrolling shopping mall after it malfunctions

The tot was left with a sore head, swollen foot and bruised leg after the machine knocked him down

THE parents of a one-year-old-boy have spoken out about a shopping mall robot which knocked their son down and ran him over.

Harwin Cheng was left with injuries to his leg and foot after the incident happened.

He was also left with a sore head from his fall.

The robot was created to stop shoplifters at the Stanford Shopping Centre in Palo Alto, California.

The Knightscope K5 also reports any unusual noises it hears.

Its sensors apparently malfunctioned and it strayed from its patrol path, knocking the tot over.

Harwin’s mother Tiffany Teng told 'The robot hit my son's head and he fell down - facing down - on the floor, and the robot did not stop and it kept moving forward.

“He was crying like crazy and he never cries. He seldom cries.”

The family went on to say a security guard had told them the robot had hurt another child just a day earlier.

The incident happened on Thursday, and the tot had bruises on his leg and a swollen foot.

Ankur Sharma added: “Maybe they have to work on the sensors more. Maybe it stopped detecting or something.
