Prince Philip looks unimpressed when Wills plants a kiss on his cheek during visit to his work
It was a typically awkward British embrace between the 95-year-old Royal and his pilot grandson
PRINCE Philip looked stunned when he was planted a kiss from his pilot grandson on the runway during a trip to see his workplace.
Wills warmly welcomed his grandparents to East Anglian Air Ambulance's new base at Cambridge Airport today where the Queen officially opened the Egerton-Smith Centre.
The 34-year-old was all smiles as he gave his grandparents a special tour of the facilities and one of the charity's H145 helicopters.
The Duke of Cambridge started flying missions for the charity a year ago after completing his training.
He had only just landed following a trip to Norfolk for a medical emergency just 20 minutes before the Royals were due to arrive.
During the 40-minute visit, the Queen unveiled a plaque commemorating the new base.
She was then given a bouquet from two-year-old Pepe Casanova who had been helped by the air ambulance service when he was just five months old.
After launching in 2000, EAAA pilots now fly an average of five missions per day from bases in Cambridge and Norwich.
They will attend emergencies across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.
The visit lasted 40 minutes before the Queen had to head back to Buckingham Palace, where she is due to meet outgoing Prime Minister David Cameron.
Proudly wearing his nametag 'William Wales' on his upper chest, the young royal kissed both his grandparents goodbye before jetting off to another emergency.
