CHER has slammed Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage as "definite tossers" as Britain's newest Prime Minister begins an overhaul of her Cabinet.

Theresa May promoted chief-Brexiteer Boris Johnson to Foreign Secretary as part of her first overhaul of the Cabinet, sparking jokes online about his abilities to successfully negotiate with other countries.

Taking to Twitter, the singer and actress wrote: "UK has (a) special place in my (heart). Lived there 2x's in my life & love Brits.. However...Boris & Nigel are definite tossers."

But she did not reply to the initial question as to whether she had ever considered putting herself forward as the next leader of Labour party.

She also replied to a journalist's question about what she thought about Boris Johnson's appointment to the Foreign Secretary role, saying he was a "F-ing Idiot who lied to British ppl & didn't have the (balls) 2 lead them once the 'leave' vote won!"

The appointment to Cabinet also shocked comedian Ricky Gervais, who tweeted to his 11.3m followers: "I'm beginning to think 2016 is a spoof."

He also wrote: "Phew! Just when Britain was starting to become a laughing stock around the world, Boris Johnson is appointed foreign secretary."

Reactions on social media continued overnight after Theresa May announced the appointment barely an hour after becoming Britain's second female Prime Minister.

Labour MP Chuka Umunna for Streatham wrote: "Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson's first official meeting with President Obama will be interesting. Suggest it starts with the word "sorry"."

Johnson once wrote that US President Barack Obama was "incoherent and downright hypocritical," mocking him as a "part-time Kenyan President."

Carl Bildt, a Swedish politician and diplomat who was Prime Minister of Sweden from 1991–94, also tweeted his surprise at the appointment, sharing a less-than-flattering image of Johnson.

He wrote: "I wish it was a joke, but I fear it isn't. Exit upon exit."
