Horror pics show woman, 19, shot through the EYE at a car show by gunmen in ‘anti-Asian hate crime’ drive-by
HORRIFIC photos show a woman, 19, was shot through the eye at a car show in what her family is calling an "anti-Asian hate crime" drive-by.
Bay Area teen, Jessica Dimalanta, was shot through her right eye last weekend while attending a car stunt show with four friends.
According to a page set up by the victim's family, several suspects in a dark sedan pulled up to a grey Lexus Dimalanta was riding in and opened fire.
Dimalanta and another 19-year-old were hit, while three other friends also in the vehicle were not injured.
Police have reportedly not classified the attack in as a hate crime yet, but Dimalanta's family is convinced she was targeted because she is Asian-American.
The teen's uncle, Dexter Martin, set up the GoFundMe page to raise money for her medical expenses. She was apparently diagnosed with diabetes just before the shooting, and has tested positive for since entering the hospital.
"She was the victim of a hate crime this past weekend by multiple shooters," Martin wrote on the GoFundMe, which has far surpassed its goal of raising $10,000. By Saturday evening, the fund had raised more than $48,000.
"Jessica, unfortunately, was hit in the face; the bullet went straight through her eye. While doctors were able to remove the shell, fragments still are embedded in her face, and she is unable to chew and speak without pain," Martin wrote.
"She is now permanently impaired. While she is in the hospital slowly recovering, police are still investigating and trying to find justice for her."
The uncle goes on to describe the teen as "distraught" and terrified that she may have been the target of a hate crime.
In an update posted on Friday, Martin shared that Dimalanta had been discharged from the hospital and would be quarantining at home because of the Covid.
"Our primary focus right now is my niece's recovery, beating Covid and her well being," Martin wrote.

"As one would expect, she is very traumatized and needs her space to heal as well."
The family thanked everyone who donated and said they are working with police to get justice for the teen.
The attack comes amid a surge of violence against Asian people across the country -- including that left six Asian women, and two others, dead.
