Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney forced to deny she’s had lip fillers after being called out on social media
The US star, 21, slammed critics saying: "I literally haven't done anything to my face!"
AN Olympic gymnast has been forced to hit back on social media after she was called out for having had lip injections to give her a plumper pout.
US star McKayla Maroney showed off her fuller look at the US Women's Gymnastics Olympic Trials, and it caused a lot of comment.
Known for her trademark smirk, fans noticed that she wasn't as thin lipped as she had been previously.
After a series of memes appeared on the Internet about her look the 2012 gold medal winner decided to set the record straight.
Speaking to , she said about the rumours: 'First of all I haven't. And I've posted a picture on Instagram last night that was like, how do I make my face look like I didn't do anything to my face when I literally have not done anything to my face?"
McKayla, 21, revealed in February she was retiring from gymnastics, saying it was due to health issues, as well as wanting to put "worth and value into something else."
Speaking on the GymCastic podcast she said she wanted to get into music and was looking to be the male version of artist Drake.
The silver medal vault winner said: "Growing up in the social media world, it's tough.
"Your face changes, you get older, your face fills out, and you fall into liking makeup and different stuff like that. And for people saying that, for the most part — it would kind of hurt my feelings when you haven't done anything."
She has a huge following on social media, and shows off her athletically honed body in crop tops, cut off jeans and bikinis.
McKayla says now she is older she is more interested in her appearance and fashion, and not so focused on getting a gold medal.
She admitted her new look might be different for her fans: "I think it freaks people out to see somebody change just a little bit.
"I don't mean to freak anybody out. At the end of the day, I have changed. I can't blame anybody for saying, "Oh, she changed!" You know, because I have. And that's OK."
McKayla had an unexpected fall while taking part in the London Olympics in 2012 - her pursed sideways pout when she got second place generated a social media frenzy thanks to her "not impressed" face.
