Man leapt onto Nice terrorist’s truck and hit him in the face during terror rampage
Gwenaël tried to to stop Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel’s lorry moments before police shot him dead
A HERO reveller climbed on to killer driver Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel’s lorry and punched him in the face amid the Bastille Day carnage in Nice.
The brave 26-year-old, named only as Gwenaël, hit Bouhlel — dubbed the Bastille Bastard — moments before police shot the maniac dead.
He leapt on to the HGV when it slowed down because a second man had grabbed the door.
Bouhlel, 31, responded by shooting at Gwenaël, but missed.
And within moments his terror attack which left 84 dead and 202 injured on the Promenade des Anglais ended in a hail of bullets.
The have-a-go-hero didn't stop the attacker but his actions could have saved lives
Gwenaël, a deliveryman, said: “The area behind the truck was a field of dead people, blood and flesh. I had to step over corpses in order to keep trying to get to him.
“I wondered what I could do — but I had to catch up with him.”
Gwenaël was arrested amid fears he was Bouhlel’s accomplice, but set free after police questioned him.
CCTV showed Bouhlel scouting at the scene of his massacre at least twice before the attack.
Six people aged 22 to 40 were last night still in custody as cops probed last Thursday’s outrage. But Bouhlel’s ex-wife Hajer Khalfallah was released following a police quiz.
