A PAEDOPHILE pensioner has been jailed for a catalogue of historic abuse after he walked into a police station and told the desk sergeant "I've been a naughty boy."

Nottingham Crown Court heard the 76 year-old married man asked at the station for "CID" and admitted he had touched and raped the children in the 1960s and 1970s.

Passing sentence a judge told the passage of time did nothing to lessen his crimes and that for more than half his life Parnham had been “living a lie” pretending to be a pillar of society.

Prosecutor Dawn Pritchard told the court "He said he did not have intercourse but touched them sexually.

"He said it was three children, but could not remember their ages, and he said he had come to the police station to 'sort it out'.

But when police spoke to the three women the married pensioner, of West Bridgford, Nottingham, it became clear the abuse was far more serious than he had admitted.

One, who he raped and attempted to rape, said in a statement read in court that his behaviour left her feeling dirty and disgusting and she had become quiet and withdrawn, losing her confidence and developing depression.

"By abusing me as he did he took something from me that I will never get back," said the 22-year-old.

The court heard graphic descriptions of him abusing her from the age of four. He showed her adult porn and kissed her.

And as the investigation continued, a 52-year-old woman was spoken to by police. She got upset and began shaking when she was asked if she knew Parnham.

When she was just 10 Parnham showed her pornographic magazines, made suggestive remarks, exposed himself to her and performed a sexual act.

She was to say in her statement to the court that she was left feeling dirty and insecure.

"When she should have been playing with Barbie dolls, she was being shown pornography," read Miss Prtichard from the woman's statement.

The third victim, now aged 33, revealed to detectives Parnham kissed her on her lips.

Passing sentence Judge Stuart Rafferty QC ordered him to sign the sex offender's register for life and be subject to a sexual harm prevension order and a restraining order.

He told Parnham: "Each of your victims was young when you committed offences against them and those offences, it should be said, span a period of 30 years of your life; so for half of your life you have been purporting to be a man of good character and a pillar of society.

“You were living a lie and you have caused all of them to live a lie as well."

Mitigating, Harry Snook said his client had pleaded guilty and spared his victims the agony and distress of giving evidence at a trial.

Married for 51 years, Parnham had been in a job for most of his life but took early retirement due to poor health. In a letter to the judge he expressed his sincere apologies to his victims.
