Kittens saved from dying of cold inside freezer cabinet

Staff discovered they were trapped when meows were heard coming from sandwich unit

TWO kittens had a lucky escape when they got trapped in a freezer cabinet in a Walmart store.

Luckily shoppers heard their distressed meows and they were able to get the two moggies out before they died of hunger and cold.

They alerted the manager of the store in Phoenix, Arizona, in the US and he was able to set a rescue mission into action.

According to the  a technician was dispatched to see what could be done.

Jujului "Juju" Kuita was not sure if she would be able to get the kittens out in time.

They were trapped in a pipe in the back of the refridgeration unit.

She and her co-worker, Ruthie Jesus, used a video camera mounted on long cable so they could detect their exact position.

Kuita said it was the "tightest position I have ever seen."

The pair used a couple of ladles to scoop the kittens from their spot and then pulled them out with a pole which had a noose at the end.

Kuita said the rescue was a "miracle and added: "I really, truly could not believe that we rescued them.

"I know the universe had a hand in that."

The two pussy cats were called Grace and Houdini and have now been placed with a loving family.
