Average American woman has popped over 4,000 zits in her lifetime – as wearing masks during Covid ‘has made skin worse’

CALLING Dr. Pimple Popper... The average American woman has popped at least 4,153 zits during her lifetime, and the pandemic has made things worse, new research shows. 

The study of 2,000 women revealed they burst about 65 pimples every year - and 58% of them say they have at least one scar to prove it.

Mask-wearing during the pandemic has exacerbated our pimple problems further

Fifty-two percent of women constantly pick their face without realizing it, and when a pimple shows up, over three-quarters say they have the urge to pop it even though they know it's bad for their pores. 

Data shows the No. 1 "skincare sin" women admitted to doing was popping pimples (81%), followed by taking long, hot showers (49%) and not washing your face before bed (43%). 

Over half of respondents (51%) also shared they haven't worn sunscreen, foundation, or other bases with SPF, daily on their faces as recommended by dermatologists, according to research conducted by OnePoll on behalf of .

Roughly the same percentage of women who suffer from acne say it has worsened as a result of mask-wearing during the COVID-19 pandemic, and 38% report their skin “hasn’t been this bad in years.”

And while a majority of women have been showing less of their faces in person because of the pandemic, many still feel pressured to have flawless skin when they hop on a Zoom call.

Fifty-seven percent of them agreed the pressure to have the perfect skin is greater than ever before, thanks to social media.

That’s why the average woman would spend a whopping $796.25 to have the best skincare, results show.

“With tons of drool-worthy images of flawless skin on social media, it’s no wonder that respondents report trying just about anything – even things that could potentially damage their skin – to have the perfect glow,” a Truly Beauty skincare expert said.

“The key to great skin, though, is clean, quality-sourced ingredients that will stand the test of time – and won’t risk irritating, scarring, or otherwise harming your skin in the process," the expert added.
