Brits furious as internet provider BT Broadband suffers major outage
Huge numbers of people across the country prevented from accessing the web due to fault at internet exchange
People across Britain are offline today after BT Broadband was hit with a major technical issue.
The problems started at about 9am today and affected vast swathes of the county.
"Sorry, we're aware of a problem & working to fix ASAP," BT tweeted this morning.
BT said the problem was caused by "power issues at one of our internet peering partners' sites in London".
"Engineers are working to fix things as fast as possible," it said.

The problem has now been solved.
BT wrote: "A small number of our customers... may experience a loss of telephone and/or broadband services. We hope to have service restored as quickly as possible and apologise for any inconvenience this may be causing.
"“We’re sorry that some BT and Plusnet customers experienced problems accessing some internet services this morning.
"Around 10 per cent of customers’ internet usage was affected following power issues at one of our internet connection partners’ sites in London. The issue has now been fixed and services have been restored.”
Alex Neill, Which? Director of Policy and Campaigns, said customers should be compensated for the loss of broadband.
“Many people now view broadband as an essential service so it's only right that consumers are automatically compensated when their service is lost, as it has been for many BT customers today," he said.
"The Government must push forward with the Digital Economy Bill to give broadband customers this right as soon as possible."
