This disturbing footage shows why you should never take a buggy on an escalator

The helpless child is picked up at the bottom and checked for injuries

This is the shocking moment a mother in China takes her child's buggy on an escalator and looses control of it.

The footage shows the careless woman tipping the stroller onto two back wheels before rolling it onto the moving stairs.

She continues to position the pram on the dangerous stairway despite not being allowed.

The child, who appears to be no older than 18 months, is seen innocently munching a snack as the mindless mother leans forward to 'check' her child.

At this moment she loses her grip of the pushchair which proceeds to plummet down the metal steps.

The open fronted buggy tumbles at least twice before reaching the bottom of the escalator, shocking commuters below.

The mother of the tumbling tot frantically runs down the moving stairs and picks up her baby, who has fallen out of the chair.

The buggy continues to roll off the escalator before a passer-by stops it in it's tracks.

Footage shows the woman holding the young child at the bottom while checking for injuries.

She eventually steps off the escalator and walks towards the buggy, hopefully to the nearest A&E.
