You might think your weekend plans are the most important thing in the world right now.

But NASA has released a series of stunning pictures which will make you feel totally insignificant, no matter what you've got in the diary.

Stargazers have used the Hubble Telescope to focus on a "warp field" at the very edge of the universe.

The largest galaxy visible in the pictures is four billion light years away, but the giant star cluster is so big that its gravity has warped the space around it.

This effect brings galaxies which are even further away into view for the first time, which appear as if they have been distorted through a "fun house mirror".

NASA wrote: "The photo unveils the effect of space warping due to gravity.

"The huge mass of the cluster distorts and magnifies the light from galaxies that lie far behind it due to an effect called gravitational lensing.

"This phenomenon allows Hubble to see galaxies that would otherwise be too small and faint to observe."

What we're actually seeing in the picture is the galaxies as they looked billions of years ago, because the light has taken so long to reach us.

Our universe is about 13.82 billion years old, meaning the latest NASA image is a flashback in time to the very early days of the cosmos.

"This 'warp field' makes it possible to get a peek at the very first generation of galaxies," NASA added.

"Already, an infant galaxy has been found in the field, as it looked 1 billion years after the big bang."
