A CONMAN missed his wedding today after being locked up for fraud 100 miles away.
Carl James, 25, was supposed to be getting married at 11am in Newport, South Wales.
Instead, he was in Devon where he faced magistrates in Exeter at 10am after defrauding an ex-girlfriend.
When he came up from the police cells where he spent the night, he told the court: “I’m getting married at 11am.
“It’s all been a bit of a shock.”
James took out two loans in his ex’s name without her consent.
The first was for £1,150 from Pounds to Pocket.
He had told his ex his gran had deposited the cash for him using the firm’s name as a joke.

The second was a £2,000 loan from Barclays Bank, taken out ten days after the first, in March this year.
The court heard James, of Quedgeley, Gloucs, needed the cash for rent but wasted much of it.
He bought a Pandora necklace, got a tattoo and took a trip to London.
James claimed he was not told court dates.
He was arrested on a warrant on Friday and held overnight.
His court appearance, where he admitted fraud, meant he missed his wedding.
JPs bailed him until sentencing next month.
A court source said: “His bride may have had a lucky escape.”
