Posting a picture of her first day to her 1.7million followers, Meza wrote: "Day 1. I got the job! This was my first day as Miss Universe.

"Wish me luck, the journey has just started!"

Underneath she wrote a note in her native Spanish thanking all the people who had congratulated her and who had been with her on the long journey.

She concluded the note by telling her father that she loves them.

Miss Mexico took the 2021 crown on Sunday after the 26-year-old beat 74 other beauty queens - but she is now embroiled in controversy.

Clifftop photos snapped in 2019 reportedly show Andrea posing as a stunning bride, while wearing a lengthy flowing veil, and hugging her 'husband'.

The pics have been shared across social media and by Mexican publications, sparking controversy.

The Miss Universe Organization has been contacted for comment.

A major rule for the Miss Universe beauty contest is that contestants must be single.

'Wedding' rumours started just hours after Andrea was crowned Miss Universe in Florida on Sunday night.

In the photo spread, she and Jorge Saenz included romantic captions that read like wedding vows.

He wrote in the captions: "I am immensely grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to meet her at this moment and to cross our path.

"Today a new stage in our lives begins and I am sure that sharing everything with you will make me the happiest person in the world."

reports that since the pics were shared - and criticised - these captions have been 'deleted'.

And Jorge has now clarified the situation, saying that he is not currently, and never has been Andrea's husband.

Jorge, a Mexican model, explained that the pics were part of an advertising campaign, to highlight and show off the State of Chihuahua.

He said: “People, my photo with @andreamezamx is just a shooting for @ahchihuahua.

"Please stop with your messages and threats. That photo is from 2019, and it is not edited. It was just a joke. Check @achihuahua profile.”

Hugo Gloss reported that Jorge also said: "We ran a campaign to promote tourism in Chihuahua.

"One of the photos we took was of a wedding, which Andrea and I posted on our profiles.

"Andrea is a friend of mine and [like] my sister. They were taking things out of context.

"These photos are old and Andrea is just my friend."

In 2019, divorced mother Veronika Didusenko was stripped of her Miss Ukraine 2018 title.

She was banned from competing at Miss World because she had been married at one point and had a five-year-old son.

Miss Universe rules were recently changed to allow divorcees to participate in the pageant.
