BRITS' MUNICH NIGHTMARE

Horrific ordeal of couple who cowered on the floor of a restaurant for four hours to escape gun massacre maniac

Mum-of-two Cara and her husband Terry said they could see people running from the massacre with 'screams and tears'

A BRITISH couple were forced to hide for four hours on the floor of a restaurant as gunman Ali David Sonboly massacred civilians in Munich on Friday.

Cancer sufferer Cara Mitchell and husband Terry had just sat down to enjoy a meal in the German city when 18-year-old Sonboly opened fire nearby, killing nine people and injuring others before turning the gun on himself.

Mum-of-two Cara, 48, from Brighton has now spoke out about the horrifying experience inside a traditional German pub.

She said:  "The waitresses started to ask us to go into the restaurant and my first thoughts were that they were getting us in to stay dry.

“Once in the restaurant the lights were turned off and the big iron gates in front of the door were locked

“Within minutes we saw people running and there were screams and tears.

“As we were the only English people in the restaurant our fellow diners and staff began to translate there was a possible terrorist attack and there had been a shooting. The city was on lock down.

“At one point we were told to get on the floor out of sight but then were told just to stay seated at the back of the restaurant."

The couple were dining in a restaurant located in an area where cops feared a second shooter was lurking, before it was confirmed Sonboly was a lone gunman.

Cara added: “Terry was a superstar, keeping me safe by the kitchen as there was a back door there, as we were all told we may have to run.

“The staff were amazing and carried on making sure we were comfortable and had drinks. They kept in touch with the police the whole time.

“After more than four hours lock down we were told we could leave with caution and were given a route back to our hotel.

“The German people on the street were so incredibly helpful, and we were surrounded by armed police on every corner.

“It was so amazingly organised and hats off to the German authorities for how they kept us all safe.”

As the full extent of the Munich massacre was revealed, mourners began to gather at the site of the horror attack.

German cops arrest Afghan teen in connection with Munich Massacre

A 16-year-old Afghan boy has been arrested in Munich after police identified contradictions in statements he made to police about his connection to gunman Ali David Sonboly.

"There is suspicion that the 6-year-old is a possible tacit accomplice to [Friday's] attack," police said in a statement on Sunday after arresting the youth.
"We suspect that this boy aged 16 years could have been aware of the act," the statement added.
The young boy reportedly approached police voluntarily after Sonboly's shooting spree on Friday.
But police now suspect he was involved in posting the Facebook message used to lure victims to the restaurant.

Candlelit vigils were held in the famous German city on the weekend following the incident, which saw nine fatalities and left 27 people injured.

10 of the injured are in critical conditions in hospital, including one 13-year-old boy.

It was later revealed that Sonboly tried to lure victims to the McDonalds, where the attack took place, with a fake Facebook advert promising free food.

The disturbed teen also idealised Norwegian terrorist killer Anders Breivik, who slaughtered 77 people - many of whom were youngsters.

A friend told BILD newspaper Sonboly displayed pictures of Breivik as his Whatsapp profile image and said he was a "fan of mass murders".
