A HERD of cows stare scarily into a camera — minutes before almost trampling a woman to death.

Amanda Mykytka took the snap while walking with her husband Ricky Faulkner and son Louie, 12.

Louie then heard a scream, and the family turned round and spotted the cows closing in on the victim and her dog.

Ricky, 43, jumped into the field to help at the same time as a woman on the other side of the field noticed what was happening and climbed over the fence too.

Together, they managed to get the victim to safety.

But she had suffered seven fractured ribs, three fractured vertebrae and a fractured eye socket

Amanda, 40, said: “We had walked past the field and I thought, ‘Wow, they’re huge cows,’ and continued on.

“My son said he heard a scream, so we looked around and saw all the cows in a group and a little dog standing on its own.

“That’s when we realised they were surrounding a woman.

“My husband grabbed the woman’s spaniel, which distracted the cows, and the other lady, who said her name was Emma, sprinted towards her shouting, ‘Get up, get up’.

“The cows started to go towards my husband, and Emma dragged the woman out of the field.

“I was worried all three of them were going to die.

“The woman just collapsed as soon as she got out of the field. She was screaming in pain on the ground.

“She was covered in hoof marks where the cows had booted her.”

The Red Ruby Devon cattle are thought to have attacked because they were protective of their calves in the field, just off a public footpath at the tourist village of Tyneham in Dorset last Saturday.

An air ambulance landed in the field — but it was immediately surrounded by the angry cows, and had to move to a nearby car park.

The victim was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Stay-at-home mum Amanda said she wanted to warn others about the dangers of cows in the countryside.

She added: “A lot of people from cities come to the country for holidays and have no idea how dangerous cows can be, especially if they’re with their babies.

“In this case there were no warning signs up, which I think needs to change considering how many more stay-cationers will be flocking to the countryside this summer.”
