BIRD-FLEW?

Public warned to stay away from ‘aggressive’ ostrich family mysteriously roaming Scottish village

Locals have reported sightings of the exotic bird in the Ayrshire area but where they originated from remains a mystery

ANIMAL welfare officers are warning locals not to approach a family of ostriches loose in a village as the adult birds are aggressive.

One of the birds, said to have young with it, has been repeatedly seen in Patna, East Ayrshire.

Experts from Scotland’s animal welfare charity the SPCA say they have no idea where they came from as no ostriches have been reported missing.

They have launched an appeal asking members of the public to get in touch if they happen to bump into the ostrich.

Rescue officer Alistair Hill said: "Anyone in the area who spots the ostrich or its young should call us as soon as possible on 03000 999 999 so we can keep an eye on where these birds are.

“But we’re warning people not to approach as ostriches are very protective and can become extremely aggressive.”

Ostriches are the world’s largest birds and although they are flightless they can run up to 43mph.
