DONALD Trump won't be returning to Facebook anytime soon.
The Oversight Board of the social media giant has rendered a final decision.
Why was Donald Trump banned from Facebook?
Retroactively from January 7, 2021, has been banned from Facebook because of what the company is calling his role in the
The decision was upheld by the Oversight Board.
“Given the gravity of the circumstances that led to Mr Trump’s suspension, we believe his actions constituted a severe violation of our rules which merit the highest penalty available under the new enforcement protocols," said Nick Clegg, Facebook’s vice-president of global affairs, in a statement.
"We are suspending his accounts for two years, effective from the date of the initial suspension on January 7 this year.”
What will happen to Trump's accounts after two years?
When the suspension on Trump's account is lifted, he will not have free reign over his accounts.
Rather, first, experts will work together to assess the damage that Trump could do if his account is reinstated.
“We will evaluate external factors, including instances of violence, restrictions on peaceful assembly and other markers of civil unrest,” said Clegg.
“If we determine that there is still a serious risk to public safety, we will extend the restriction for a set period of time and continue to re-evaluate until that risk has receded.”
What's more, Clegg said, once the risk has determined to have been receded, Trump will be under intense scrutiny.
And if he continues to engage in violent behavior, it will not take long for his account to be banned again.

“A strict set of rapidly escalating sanctions” would continue against Trump, said Clegg.
Trump, for his part, said that the decision was “an insult to the record-setting 75m people, plus many others, who voted for us in the 2020 Rigged Presidential Election.”
“They shouldn’t be allowed to get away with this censoring and silencing, and ultimately, we will win.”
