Socialite Jasmine Hartin ‘not visited by family in prison’ after ‘shooting Belize cop’

LORD Ashcroft’s daughter-in-law Jasmine Hartin has had no family visits since she was locked up accused of shooting dead a cop, it was claimed yesterday.

Socialite Hartin, 32, was sent to the notorious Belize Central Prison last week after she was denied bail over the death of her pal, superintendent Henry Jemmott, 42.

She is the partner of billionaire Tory peer Lord Ashcroft’s youngest son, property developer Andrew, 43. The pair have two kids and a luxury home in the Central American country.

But according to a source at the “scorpion-infested” jail in Hattieville, neither Andrew nor any other family members have been seen visiting her.

Ashburn McPherson, who works at the prison, told The Sun: “I’ve been here from Monday, all the time that she has been here, and I’m certain that Jasmine hasn’t had any visits from her family.

“A friend came by on Saturday morning and he said he was a family friend.

“Her lawyer Godfrey Smith also came during the week and brought her some cash, $500, and clothes. Jasmine looked normal when I saw her, well put together and nice. She was wearing her own clothes, long pants and a blouse.”

Canadian Jasmine’s partner Andrew and the rest of the Ashcroft family are said to have been left “devastated” by the tragedy.

She described the incident as a “living nightmare”, reportedly telling cops that she had shot Jemmott accidentally.

She is said to claim: “I picked up the gun and tried to eject the magazine clip but it was stuck. I struggled with it, trying to get the magazine out, when the gun suddenly went off. I had no idea it still had a bullet in the chamber.”

Gun rounds and other evidence at the scene are said to have convinced prosecutors that she was telling the truth.

But she has been charged with manslaughter by negligence and will learn if she can be released on bail on Wednesday. She faces a maximum five years in prison.
