As mourners lit a funeral pyre to burn his body, he started moaning and they realised he was still alive.
The 23-year-old, known only as Sandeep, had gone to gather wood from the forest when he was bitten.
When he returned back to his village in India, he was taken to a traditional Tantric healer in the next village.
The Tantric's methods appeared ineffective and villagers believed he had died so they decided to bury him in the local cemetery.
