Self-styled “kink community” Klub Verboten — where guests watch naked women being flogged — received the cash in April through its parent arm Unbennant.

Its website sells leather bondage gear, sex toys and nipple clamps for members to bring to monthly parties.

Arts Council England said the cash was from the Covid Culture Recovery Fund.

It described Unbennant as “a creative production company that makes a valuable contribution to the night-time economy and will use its grant to create and protect a number of jobs through Covid-secure events.”

It added: “We recognise some things won’t be for everyone, but want to support different types of organisations that cater to all tastes and interests.”

Klub Verboten celebrated its taxpayer-funded haul: “This rescued us from going bust. So big hugs to you all!”

The group has up to 5,000 members, each welcomed to the “anything goes” bashes in East London.

One member said: “Here, in a sex party, I feel so much safer than any other club.”
