ACCIDENTAL JAIL BREAK

Dopey lag goes on the run after managing to lock himself OUT of prison

A DOPEY lag has had his sentence extended after managing to get himself locked OUT of prison.

Joseph Graham, 35, left open jail HMP Sudbury in West Derbyshire to pick up a parcel of drugs on July 28.

But when he returned with the package of vodka and legal high black mamba he found he was unable to get back in.

The dopey lag – who had already been banged up for five years for kidnap in July 2008 – then panicked and fled across nearby fields.

His brief stint on the run didn’t last, however.

Graham was found 15 hours later, drunk, in a barn a couple of miles away.

Covered in cuts he was hauled back to jail – but later had to be taken to hospital when he felt unwell following his solo bender.

The prisoner – who had been approaching parole – admitted escaping at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday and was sentenced to an extra six months inside.

Judge John Burgess said: "How stupid can you get?"

He added: "You go out and collect some Black Mamba and vodka that had been left for you.

"You cannot get back in and you go on the run for 15 hours.

“You end up drunk in a barn and are arrested."

Prosecutor Sarah Slater, said: "During late roll call late on June 28 he decided to leave prison.

"He said he went out to collect some sort of parcel, containing Black Mamba, vodka and coke.

"He tried to get back into prison but was unable to do so, so ran across fields.

"A prison officer received a phone call on June 29.

"He was found in a farm a couple of miles from Sudbury.

"He was intoxicated.

"He had cuts to his knees and legs, then was taken back to prison.

"He became unwell and was taken to hospital."
