Swimmer drowns after getting into difficulties off beach in Isles of Scilly
Emergency services try in vain to save man pulled from water after getting into trouble swimming near Porthcressa beach
A MAN has drowned while swimming off the coast of Cornwall, it has been reported.
It is said the man got into difficulties while swimming off Porthcressa beach on St Mary's in the Isles of Scilly.
The coastguard were called just before 6pm after a swimmer was pulled from the water.
A search was then carried out over fears there could be other people in the sea.
Nobody else was found, however, and the man is thought to have been swimming on his own.
Emergency services desperately tried to revive him, but he died at the scene.
St Mary’s Coastguard Rescue Team, together with St Mary’s all-weather lifeboat, along with South Western Ambulance Service, and Devon and Cornwall Police were all present.
