Furious pet owner slams Pets At Home after her beloved pooch had his ‘testicles burned’ during haircut
The employee who carried out the grooming session even told her that the pup was howling throughout - but did not know he was hurt
A SHOCKED pet owner claims her dog’s testicles were burnt while he was having his fur cut in a routine grooming session.
Kay Betson said her two-year-old dog Woody suffered the injury after the session at a Pets at Home store in Sheffield.
The mum-of-three said she had noticed he wasn’t his usual self and could not work out what was the matter after bringing him home.
The 45-year-old, from Gleadless in Yorkshire, said he was crying constantly and eventually the family took their beloved pet to the vet where he was treated during an overnight stay.
Kay said the employee who carried out the cut on Woody had even told her they they needed to put headphones in as the pup was howling so much – they did not realise they had hurt the dog.
Kay has demanded her £75 pet insurance excess be repaid and she wants a full apology from the company.
A Pets at Home spokesman said the dog had suffered “clipper rash” and not burns, but said they were waiting for Kay to send the vet bills and expenses for her to be reimbursed.
Kay said she had already sent the necessary bits of paper and has sent them again.
She added, when speaking to The Star: “It’s been awful – we had no idea at the time what was wrong with him .
“He was fine before he went in and it was like he was a different dog by the time he came out. He was crying constantly and we then took him to a vet.”
“The real fight then started,” Kay said.
“I’ve complained and sent various letters to Pets at Home.
“They’ve only replied once and asked me to send vet bills to them.
“I did that and I haven’t heard anything from them – I’m so angry and I feel like I’ve been fobbed off.”
A Pets at Home spokesman said: “Our groomers are all highly trained and will always put the welfare of pets first.
“We received Mrs Betson’s letter of complaint in November 2015 and responded immediately, requesting details of the treatment and costs incurred, but we heard nothing more until we were contacted by The Star on July 26.
“We look forward to receiving the information requested so that we can reimburse Mrs Betson accordingly.”
