SHOCKING video has emerged showing the terrifying moment a man walks into a McDonald’s wielding a machete.
Cops were called to the fast food restaurant in Welling, South East London yesterday after receiving reports about a man waving a large blade around in front of customers.
The footage – captured on CCTV outside in the street – shows the man reaching into his coat as arrives at the burger bar at 11.50am.
The suspect reportedly pulled a balaclava over his face as he walked in and shaken customers can be seen running for their lives in the video.
At one point a terrified woman pulls a child along the street while glancing behind her.
Seconds later the hooded suspect comes running out and along the road with the deadly weapon clearly visible in his hands.
Cops arrived at the scene shortly after the man had fled.
But a man was arrested nearby a short time later on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said yesterday: “There are no reported injuries.
“The man was taken to a South London police station and remains in custody.”
He added: “The case is not terror-related and inquiries continue.”
A number of shops along the street were reported to have been cordoned off yesterday while police investigated.
A local worker in a nearby store described the ensuing panic.
According to the , they said: “People came running into the shop.
“They asked me to shut the door and said someone was outside with a machete.
“I didn't see him but that's what customers said - he had a balaclava on.”
They added: “It was scary – we were freaking out.
“There was a girl screaming.”
A McDonald’s spokeswoman said yesterday: “We can confirm that an incident occurred in our Welling store this morning.
“No-one was injured, the police investigation is ongoing therefore we cannot comment further at this time.”
