'I'm a cop, I can do what I want'

‘Monster’ officer found guilty of raping woman banned from working for Met Police ever again

PC Michael Graham, 49, receives life ban after conviction of seven counts of rape and one count of sexual assault

A FORMER police officer jailed for 16 years for raping a woman repeatedly has been told he will never work for the force again.

PC Michael Graham, 49, was labelled a “monster” as he was found guilty of seven counts of rape and one of sexual assault at the Old Bailey earlier this year.

The 49-year-old had tied his victim up and choked her until she gasped for breath, at which point he brutally attacked her at least a dozen times.

At one point during the attack, he told her: "I am a police officer, I can do what I want."

Graham has now been formally dismissed from his post at the Metropolitan Police, following a misconduct hearing on Thursday.

The panel concluded Graham, who will remain on the Sexual Offenders Register for life, “breached the standards of professional behaviour”.

Assistant Commissioner Helen King insisted Graham’s case was "so serious that dismissal is the only option".

She continued: “At a time when much work has been done to improve the confidence of victims to report sexual offences to the police, the negative impact of an officer being convicted of rape and sexual assault in these circumstances is very obvious.

"His actions have very clearly brought the police service into disrepute.

"It is immensely to the victim's credit that she had the courage and resilience to report these matters and see them through the traumatic process of a trial to achieve PC Graham's conviction.

“These convictions are so serious, as is the impact on the victim and on public confidence more broadly, that there is only one appropriate outcome in this case. That is for PC Graham to be dismissed without notice."

At the time of his trial at the Old Bailey, Graham insisted the sex was consensual despite evidence found on his victim’s phone suggesting otherwise.
