Double child murderer and rapist Colin Pitchfork to stay in jail for at least another month
CHILD murderer Colin Pitchfork will stay in jail for at least another month, The Sun can reveal.
Officials are still drawing up plans for his release to ensure the monster is kept under the toughest supervision.
And a shortage of rooms in bail hostels also means he will not set foot outside jail until late August at the earliest.
Source said Pitchfork, 61, could still find himself at HMP Leyhill, an open prison, until early autumn.
One said: "Reports of his imminent release within days are wide of the mark."
Once released, Pitchfork will be subjected to some of the strictest controls on any released con.
HIGHEST RISK RATING
The beast, who raped and strangled two teenage girls in the 1980s, will be given the highest risk rating once freed.
His multi-agency public protection arrangement (MAPPA) will be level three - reserved for the most dangerous offenders.
Police, prison and probation officers will all work together to monitor Pitchfork.
And his life licence conditions mean he can be recalled to jail for the slightest breach.
Pitchfork murdered Lynda Mann, 15, in 1983 at Narborough, Leics, and three years later did the same to Dawn, also 15, in nearby Enderby.
CHILD KILLER
Leicestershire Police launched the largest manhunt in its history at the time.
But he evaded arrest until 1987, when a bakery colleague boasted he got £200 for posing as Pitchfork to give a blood and saliva sample.
Speaking after his conviction, then Lord Chief Justice, Lord Lane, said: "From the point of view of the safety of the public I doubt if he should ever be released."
Yet Pitchfork, who was the first UK murderer convicted using DNA evidence, saw his minimum term cut from 30 years to 28 in 2009.

He had been denied parole twice in 2016 and 2018.
But in June a panel found he was no longer a danger to the public.
An appeal by Justice Secretary Robert Buckland was rejected by the parole board last week.
