'I'M SORRY'

Sick child killer Ian Huntley ‘wants to meet parents of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman to apologise’

THE man responsible for two of the most harrowing and well known murders now wants to apologise to the parents of his victims.

Ian Huntley, who killed 10-year-old Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman fourteen years ago, apparently confessed his desire to a prison inmate.

The Sunday  he said: "I lost control of my mind. I would like to explain to them what I did. I wish I hadn't done it."

But he still wears a replica Manchester United shirt similar to the ones worn by his victims when he killed them.

It has been said the governor of the prison the former school caretaker is serving his time in has asked him to stop wearing the shirt, but he has ignored the request.

Huntley's former lover Maxine Carr helped him cover up the brutal killings - she was jailed for her part in the deception - and he would apparently like to apologise to her as well.

She was the girls' teaching assistant and provided Huntley with a false alibi. For this she received a three-and-a-half year prison sentence.

The murders occurred in Soham, Cambridgeshire, on August 4, 2002, after the girls walked by his house following a family barbecue.

The bodies of the young girls were not found until August 17, near RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, by a local farm worker.

Huntley has never been known to have shown remorse for the killings and denied the murders at his trial.

A leaked 2005 prison psychiatrist report concluded he felt no remorse.

He had even appeared on television during the search for the girls expressing concern for their well-being, after he had killed them.

A former inmate who was on the same wing as Huntley at Category A HMP Frankland in Durham told the Sunday Mirror he said: "I’m genuinely sorry for what I’ve done.

"He said, 'If I was given the opportunity to apologise and explain what I did to their parents I would'."

His former partner recently revealed she still feels guilty about the fact Huntley was able to kill the two schoolgirls, after "so many missed opportunities"; which might have stopped him.
