BrewDog announce £7.4m loss after Covid and ‘toxic culture’ claims
BREWDOG has announced a £7.4million loss after the Covid pandemic amid recent claims of a “toxic culture” in the workplace.
The beer firm revealed their expenses had exceeded income over the 12 months in 2020 despite revenue soaring.
The company’s yearly intake increased to £238million from £215million in 2019.
It comes after the brewery shifted to online sales after their pubs across the UK were forced to shut due to Covid.
The firm’s online revenue shot up by an incredible 900 per cent following the virus lockdown.
According to , co-founder James Watt said it had been the “toughest year” in the company’s history.
Former employees slammed the company for having a “rotten culture” and said the business was built on a “cult of personality”.
They also alleged that staff had been treated poorly and blasted the brewery over alleged “lies, hypocrisy and deceit”.
The letter claimed some workers had a “residential feeling of fear” and added that they were “safety concerns” too.
BrewDog later apologised to staff as they labelled the letter as "upsetting, but so important".
The firm said it "proves that on many occasions we haven't got it right" but added "we do have many thousands of employees with positive stories to tell".
James Watt said: “At BrewDog we are focussed on building the best business we can. We have always tried to do the best by our team — we do have many thousands of employees with positive stories to tell as a result.
"But the tweet we saw last night proves that on many occasions we haven’t got it right. We are committed to doing better, not just as a reaction to this, but always; and we are going to reach out to our entire team past and present to learn more.
"But most of all, right now, we are sorry.
"It’s hard to hear those comments, but it must have been harder to say them. We appreciate that and we will endeavour to honour that effort and courage with the real change it deserves.”
