Mystery EuroMillions winner LOSES £1million after failing to claim prize
A MYSTERY lottery winner has LOST £1million after they failed to claim the prize.
Punters were urged to check their tickets after the lucky Brit scored the EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker top prize.
The ticket, with winning code VSHS38986, was bought in Lewisham, south east London, before the draw on January 29.
But the winning punter missed their six-month deadline - which expired at midnight last night.
Camelot’s Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor at The National Lottery, said: “Unfortunately, I can confirm that the ticket-holder did not come forward within the deadline to claim their prize and has now sadly missed out on this substantial amount of money.
“However, the money will now add to the £36M raised on average each and every week for National Lottery-funded projects across the UK.
“We’re encouraging everyone to check their tickets online at national-lottery.co.uk or by downloading the National Lottery app, and to buy or check their tickets in retail in line with government guidance.
“Playing online via the website or app means that your ticket is checked, and you get an email notification if you win a prize.
“You can also scan your retail tickets on the National Lottery app to check if you’re a winner.”
'LIFE-CHANGING' SUM
In June, shopkeeper Mehmet Ozer revealed he had won the Lotto for the third time in 10 years, scooping a fortune of more than £600,000.
And in April, one lucky Brit scooped a £59 million jackpot with EuroMillions.
In the same month, a £122m jackpot was paid out to one UK player - becoming the fifth-biggest ever National Lottery winner and putting them squarely on the Times Rich List.
Lottery winners can sign an agreement for full publicity if they want to release information about themselves, or remain anonymous.

The jackpot had rolled over an incredible 22 times in a row, including four at the previous €190 million cap.
Colin and Chris Weir won £161million on the EuroMillions in 2011, making them the second biggest winners, while Adrian and Gillian Bayford scored £148.6 million in 2012, putting them in third place.
