Disabled pensioner in tears over £276 fine for parking in loading bay outside home to unload shopping
A DISABLED pensioner has been left in tears after being fined £276 fine for parking outside his home to unload some shopping.
Robert Young, who suffers from Parkinson’s Disease, was “upset and crying” when the ticket was placed on his car outside the Millroyd Mill Apartment building in Brighouse.
Initially the managing agent, Leeds-based J H Watson Property Management Ltd, said that the ticket issued in December last year had been taken care of.
But soon he received a county court judgment demanding payment of over £276.
The whopping sum stressed out Robert, who recently suffered a series of heart attacks, and whose only income is benefits.
Lucily, a neighbour, stepped in to help - setting up a gofundme page to protest about how he was treated.
Jo told Yorkshire Live: "Al was very upset and crying about what had happened.
"Fortunately we managed to raise the money in just 10 minutes with some cash left over for the charity, Parkinson's UK.
"I couldn't believe that someone in his condition could be treated in this way.”
The page has now raised £350 after being set up a few days ago.
The page reads: "It is outrageous that a disabled person who is proud and independent, (despite the challenges he faces), should have to battle this issue and pay extortionate and outrageous fines for parking in a building where he lives and already pays for a parking space."
Robert explained: "Because I am disabled and walk with a stick I can only carry one bag of shopping at a time so I parked in the loading bay which is close to the lift.

"I couldn't believe it when I found out I had got a ticket and then found the cost had escalated. It has caused me a lot of stress and worry.
"Jo is a great friend though and it was absolutely amazing what she did. I am very grateful to her and to everyone who contributed to the fund."
